Additional Information Freeza is the head of an unnamed empire that conquers and sells planets throughout the galaxy. He was also the Saiyans' "employer" where Freeza would hire them to invade and conquer a planet, and prepare it to be sold to the highest bidder. The money that Freeza received from the selling of the planet, he divided between himself and the Saiyans . As long as this continued, both parties were happy.
However, this all changed when King Vegeta had a son whose power superpassed the King's at only a young age. This had Freeza concerned - If the Prince eventually had a child, he would be stronger than the Prince, and the chain would continue, until there was a Saiyan strong enough to stand up to Freeza. Also, while the Saiyans were no match for Freeza on their own, if they banded together, they could pose a problem. But what Freeza secretly feared the most was the legend of the Super Saiyan that has been passed down through the ages - which told of a Saiyan whose power was unimaginable.
Not wanting to take any chances, Freeza destroyed the planet Vegeta, along with all Saiyans, excluding a handful of warriors, including Prince Vegeta. With this small group under Freeza's control, he had nothing to worry about anymore.While he can appear to be polite and well mannered, Freeza is a creature of pure evil. He kills whoever and whatever he wants, from people right up to entire planets, for the simple reason that he can. Because of this, Freeza has no doubt that he is the ultimate power in existence.
On a final note, Akira Toriyama came up with character names based on the play on words. Freeza's name is a pun on the word 'Freezer'
