The Gawain is a prototype Knightmare Frame developed by the Britannian Empire, but stolen shortly after by the Black Knights. Though it was an incomplete Knightmare Frame at first, it features many new technologies and weapons that would inspire the future development of Knightmare Frames.
What is most notable of the Gawain is that it is taller than a standard Knightmare Frame. Also, it contains a two-seater cockpit, though it can be piloted by just one person.
For technology, the Gawain has a prototype integrated Float System, the first Knightmare to use this technology which allows for sustained flight. Also, unlike other Britannian Knightmare Frames, its Landspinners are also integrated in to the Frame itself, compared to the external mounts on other models.
In addition, it contains an experimental Druid System - an advanced version of the Factsphere found on Knightmare Frames - intended for investigating and analyzing the mysterious Thought Elevators. In combat, this system plots probable enemy movements, making the Gawain a fitting Knightmare Frame for Zero.
In terms of weapons, it is equipped with 10 minature slash harkens in its fingers. However, its most devastating weapons are the shoulder mounted Hadron cannons. Initially, the Hadron cannons were not focused, scattering particles when fired, but this was overcome by applying Rakshata Chawla's Gefjun Disturber technology that focused the beams.
Though many new and powerful technologies have been introduced in the Gawain, its low mobility does not make it ideal for close combat, even against older, but more agile Knightmare Frames. However, the Druid System combined with Zero's tactical genius, makes the Gawain an excellent commander unit to lead the Black Knights against the Britannian Empire.
