Also known as the "Dragon of the West," Iroh is a retired general of the Fire Nation, famous for his legendary military feat of breaching the Earth Kingdom capital, Ba Sing Se. However, though he was disgraced for failing to capture the capital, Iroh still commands much respect through the Fire Nation, even in retirement. Years later when his nephew Prince Zuko was banished, Iroh decided to join him on his mission to locate the Avatar, acting as Zuko's voice of reason and training instructor in the ways of firebending.
Whereas many in the Fire Nation display a rather aggressive, arrogant nature, Iroh is suprisingly laid back, and is more open minded to other cultures - even treating Zuko's mission as simply a vacation. Despite being retired, he is also rather proficient in firebending. Unlike other firebenders, who draw on their rage to fuel their attacks, Iroh utilises a more disciplined and controlled approach to firebending.
