Additional Information Created by Dr. Light, X is the first of a new generation of robots - he can think, feel, and make his own decisions. However, fearing the potential danger of releasing X in to the world prematurely, Dr. Light sealed him away in a capsule which would run diagnostics on X's internal systems to deem when it would be safe to release him. Knowing that he would not live to see the day that X would awaken, Dr. Light leaves a warning to not awaken the robot until testing was completed. Thirty years later, the diagnostics deemed X's systems to be reliable, and it was during this time that he was discovered by Dr. Cain.
Even after 30 years, X's design was still ahead of its time. Dr. Cain created a next generation of robot, using X's blueprints as a template to create Reploids. However, Reploids were never subject to the same level of testing that X had received, which eventually led to a number of these Reploids going out of control, becoming Mavericks. Even Sigma, Commander of the Maverick Hunters, became Maverick, and waged all out war against humanity. X, feeling responsible for these turn of events, takes up the fight against the Mavericks with his friend, Zero.
Though willing to fight against Sigma and the Mavericks out of necessity, X is a pacifist at heart. He often finds himself wondering if there is a peaceful solution of fulfilling his creator's dream of robots and humans coexisting peacefully.
