Review

This CD is a result of the disappointing Guilty Gear X OST, in which all of its music was made up of synthesised instruments. Guilty Gear X Heavy Rock tracks definitely does make up for the Guilty Gear X OST with its live instruments, and it proves that good fighting games do not need to suffer from terrible music. In fact, the heavy rock of the Guilty Gear games is probably the main (if not only) reason that makes the series stand out from other fighting games.

Each track is clearly unique and is a fitting theme for each of the characters, whether it be the cheery atmosphere of Blue Water Blue Sky, or the complete opposite of Feel a Fear. I particularly enjoyed Bloodstained Lineage, where it begins with a somewhat mysterious atmosphere with string instruments and the xylophone, before breaking out into the heavy rock that describes the nightmare that is Testament.

For those that have played the Guilty Gear games, the question as to whether or not to purchase this CD has only one answer. For those that haven't, I still highly recommend this CD, as it's not quite often you'll encounter games (especially fighting games) that have memorable music
